About Prof. dr. Jean-François Argacha

Since October 2013 Dr. Jean-François Argacha has been Head of Clinic in the Cardiology Department of the UZ Brussel. In 2009 he completed his doctoral thesis at the ULB [Free University of Brussels]: "Analysis of nicotinic stimulus contribution in the acute cardiovascular effect of passive smoking". After training at the Clinique Pasteur in Toulouse, he was certified in interventional cardiology by the Université Paris Descartes. His clinical activities are concentrated on acute coronary care and general cardiology consultancy. His technical activities are the percutaneous treatment of coronary disease and aortic valve disease (TAVI).

Since 2014 Dr. Jean-François Argacha has also been clinical professor at the VUB [Free University of Brussels] and since 2010 a ‘maître de conférence’ [lecturer] at the ULB. He is an active board member of the ‘Belgium Interdisciplinary Working Group in Acute Cardiac Care (BIWAC)’ and was the secretary of this group between 2013 and 2016. He has already published 40 articles in national and international journals. His scientific areas of expertise are the coronary physiology and the autonomic regulation of the cardiovascular system. Currently he is researching the cardiovascular consequences of air pollution and more specifically the relationship between dust particles and nitrogen dioxide (NO2) on the risk of infarcts and heart failure.
