About Prof. dr. Caroline Weytjens
Since 2007 Prof. dr. Caroline Weytjens has been working as a staff member in the department of non-invasive cardiology at the UZ Brussel. She is accredited in echocardiography and in 2009 completed her thesis with the title ‘Detection of early left ventricular dysfunction in diabetes: application of myocardial velocity imaging to a small animal model’. She is a trained heart failure specialist and a certified rehabilitation doctor and, together with Nancy De Laet, heart failure nurse, set up a heart failure clinic which in the meantime, owing to the heart failure team, has developed into a large out-patient service with more than 2,000 patient contacts every year.
Dr. Weytjens is a member of the BWGHF (Belgian Working Group for Heart Failure), the ESCVI (European Society of Cardiovascular Imaging), the BSC and the ESC (Belgian and European Society of Cardiology). She supervises students and assistants in their clinical training and scientific research and has published more than 30 articles in peer-reviewed journals.
