Breast examination or mammography

Having breasts examined is important and is often also a positive step for a patient. We endeavour to put you at ease and limit the discomfort by providing personal support. With certain pathologies, men too may have to undergo a mammography (1 in 200 cases of breast cancer).

Duration

The examination takes about 10 minutes.

Radiation

Ionising radiation is used for this purpose. Our modern equipment limits the radiation to a minimum.

Procedure

To be able to take an optimal photo, slight pressure is exerted on your breast. This may feel uncomfortable, but is always done under the direct supervision of a nurse or a doctor.

Additional examination

• In addition to a mammography, an ultrasound examination is often also carried out. The mammography is highly efficient for breasts with few glands. The ultrasound provides more information when glands are more numerous. Some abnormalities can be seen more clearly with a mammography, others with ultrasound.
• Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) of the breast is also possible and in a number of cases provides more targeted information.
