Multiple Sclerosis (MS)
Neuro-inflammatory disorders are a group of diseases where parts of the nervous system are damaged by an inflammatory reaction, giving rise to neurological symptoms. The most well-known of these is Multiple Sclerosis (MS).
What does the Neurology service offer?
-
Diagnosis
At UZ Brussel, you can have diagnostic examinations carried out (MRI, lumbar puncture, evoked potentials) and your medical history and clinical examination charted. A neuroinflammatory disorder can be diagnosed on the basis of these examinations and regular monitoring.
-
Second opinion
If you have already been given a diagnosis of MS or another neuroinflammatory disease at a different hospital, you can (possibly on the advice of your neurologist) ask the opinion of the neurologists at UZ Brussel.
-
Scientific research
As many questions about MS still remain and there is as yet no cure for the disease, the Neurology service is helping to look for answers by carrying out scientific research. It is possible that you may be asked to take part in one of these studies. This is of course entirely without obligation and has no impact whatsoever on your relationship with your doctor.

MS team
To guarantee the best possible care, a team comprising various specialists is involved. The aim is to provide personalised follow-up. The MS team accompanies you as you follow the treatments and together you seek answers to your questions and problems. In emergencies, the MS team tries to provide efficient care quickly and where necessary gives a referral.
