Electrocardiogram (ECG)
When you come for your first consultation with an electrophysiologist, an electrocardiogram is the test that is usually done first. There is no specific preparation required before you have an electrocardiogram.
A number of electrodes on your skin (four on your arms and legs and six on your chest) are used to map the electrical currents in your heart muscle. The test only takes a few minutes and it gives the doctor a lot of information about the electrical activity of the heart muscle.
