Oncofertility

Treating some cancers in women or men at a younger age can indirectly have an adverse effect on fertility, due to radiotherapy or chemotherapy, for example. The effects depend on the age, the type of cancer and the nature of the treatment required.

In order not to jeopardise the ability of cancer patients to have children, the Gynaecology service works closely with the experts at the Centre for Reproductive Medicine to develop treatments that do not impair fertility. An appropriate treatment that does not impair fertility is available for every type of cancer, with a surgical procedure being necessary in certain cases. A multidisciplinary team of experts works together on this right from the initial diagnosis.
