Wound clinic

Wounds on the leg below the knee or on the ankles or feet occur frequently and cause a lot of suffering. They can be painful, become infected and - if the treatment is given late or is incorrect - can even lead to amputation. The UZ Brussel Centre for Cardiovascular Diseases therefore has a Wound Clinic, where the care of complex wounds and ulcers is centralised.

A condition affecting the arteries or veins is often the reason why a wound does not heal. Varicose veins (venous insufficiency), blocked arteries and diabetes can all play a part. Vascular surgeons are therefore closely involved in wound care in the Wound Clinic.

If you have varicose veins or calcified veins, it is best to receive follow-up from a vascular surgeon at the Wound Clinic. If you have a foot ulcer and you also have diabetes, you can attend the CHVZ Diabetic Foot Clinic. There is also a vascular surgeon there.
