Narrowed arteries in the neck
Symptoms indicating the disease
The arteries in the neck supply blood to the brain. When a piece of clot or calcium layer comes away and moves from an artery in the neck to the brain, you may have a stroke.
The symptoms of a stroke are:
- Paralysis on one side of the body
- Problems with speaking
- Loss of a visual field
- Sudden blindness or blurred vision
If the blockage is large enough and persists for long enough, part of the brain may die and the loss will become permanent. An area that has died in this way is called an infarct.
