Dunbar Syndrome (Median Arcuate Ligament Syndrome)
Dunbar syndrome is a condition that causes severe abdominal pain. The intestinal arteries are pressed flat by the median arcuate ligament, a piece of tissue that bends around the aorta.
The diagnosis is disputed and it is often only made after many other conditions affecting the intestines, stomach, gall bladder, etc. have been excluded. The condition is quite rare and occurs four times more often in women than in men.
Symptoms indicating the disease
The patient with thoracic outlet syndrome often has the following symptoms:
- Unremitting abdominal pain which becomes even worse after eating
- Nausea
- Vomiting
- Diarrhoea
- Tiredness
- Intolerance of physical exercise
- Severe weight loss and under-nutrition
