Peripheral nervous system
The peripheral nervous system is a part of the nervous system that lies outside the central nervous system (the brain and the spinal cord). The peripheral nervous system forms the connection between the central nervous system and the organs/tissues.
The peripheral nerves may be injured or pinched by pressure, tumours, infection or other things. This will result in symptoms that depend on the nerve in question. One well-known condition of the peripheral nerves is 'carpal tunnel syndrome'. This occurs when a nerve has become trapped in the wrist and results in a weakness of the hand and tingling mainly in the thumb, the index finger and the middle finger.
