About prof. dr. Thomy de Ravel
Prof. dr. Thomy de Ravel graduated as a paediatrician and obtained a doctorate in medical genetics. He worked from 1991 as a clinical geneticist in the human genetics department of the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg, South Africa and in the Centre for Human Genetics, UZ Leuven. He was secretary and chairman of the Belgian Society of Human Genetics, and is now a member of the Quality Assessment Committee of the European Society of Human Genetics. He is a member of the Management Board of GenQA, and assessor for the clinical genetics evaluation programme of GenQA.
Since November 2018 he has been working in the Medical Genetics department and his consultations are mainly in cardiogenetics, aorta/cardiological connective tissue disorders, neuromuscular conditions, locomotor disorders and hereditary eye diseases. He is the geneticist for multidisciplinary consultations on rare diseases, endocrinology and Klinefelter syndrome. He is jointly responsible for the clinical validation of the genetic laboratory results.
